Reframing Your Fear

By September 9, 2020April 17th, 2023No Comments

Is your vision bigger than your fear?

This question was recently presented to me, and others, via the facilitator of an online program.

The program focused on how to effectively promote oneself within their business, and the mindset of doing so.

The “vision bigger than fear” question was posed in response to another attendee’s fear of posting on social media.

The facilitator then added…..

“Regardless of what you post, it’s important to know that people are going to judge you. This is what people do. They judge. So, in essence, if you already know this, there’s nothing to be fearful of.”

I found this to be a wonderful reframe of the situation and the attendee’s fear of posting….

…..People are going to judge you, so you might as well do it anyway.

Brilliant stuff and spot on!

And I loved his question, “Is your vision bigger than your fear”.

Here’s 5 reasons why……

1) HE REMINDED ME OF THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING VISION:

The direction and focus of my business has evolved over time; however, the vision of building a fulfilling business remains constant. Finding fulfillment in my work is the primary building block of the business. What is your vision?

2) HE REMINDED ME THAT IT’S OK TO BE FEARFUL:

Fear is a predominant feeling that shows up many times throughout your day. Identifying and experiencing your fear is what allows you to work with, and move through it.

3) HE REMINDED ME THAT I HAVE A CHOICE:

Fears can be freakin overwhelming – they paralyze, and make you believe that you don’t have a choice on how to deal with them. The truth is that you DO have a choice. You can either move away from, or towards your fears.

In this case, his question encourages you to create a vision that supersedes the fear and provides you with courage to move towards it.

4) HE REMINDED ME TO NOT GET COZY IN THE VICTIM SEAT:

The victim says, “look what the world is doing to me”. In this case, the victim was focused on the potential negative responses to their posts, and playing small as a result.

Playing small is what keeps you in the victim seat; holding to a strong vision is what allows you to break free.

5) HE REMINDED ME THAT LIMITING BELIEFS HAVE REFRAMES:

A reframe is shifting your mindset from a limiting belief, to an empowering one. Let’s say that you’re wanting to embark on a new challenge….

The limiting belief could be, “I shouldn’t do this because I don’t know what I’m doing” whereas the empowering belief could read, “I’m going to do this because it will help me learn and grow.”

With all this being said, here’s 2 questions for you to consider for the upcoming week:

What are some fears that are currently getting in your way? AND…

What are some powerful reframes that you can offer yourself?
