You Choose Empowerment

Here’s a summary, and some highlights, of the newsletter topics I discussed in May.

Firstly, the overarching theme for the month was “Choice”, as we focused on topics such as inner reality, reflections, projections, and kindness…..

Here are some highlights from the month…

OUTER EXPERIENCE IS A REFLECTION OF INNER REALITY:

Everything that happens in your outside world is a reflection of your inner reality. Your outside world functions as a mirror, whether you like it or not………

And with every look in the mirror, you have an opportunity to learn and grow.

Let’s break it down into real simple terms….

If things feel chaotic and out of control in your external world, meaning….

Relationships aren’t working out and you’re feeling sad.

You find yourself feeling angry and in lots of disagreements.

Life is one mishap after another.

You get REALLY frustrated with customer support. 🙂

….then there’s a REALLY good chance that your internal world is chaotic as well.

By internal world, I mean, the uncomfortable emotions that you feel inside of you.

And when you point your finger at others, It means that you have unresolved issues that you’re not attending to….

…..look within 🙂

9 STEPS TOWARDS TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP:

The new leader is transformational:  The old paradigm of barking instructions at and giving orders to others is being replaced by a movement toward transformational leadership — a form of leadership in which personal awareness, collective consciousness, and empathy for others are placed at the center of business communication.

Emotional Intelligence matters: This evolving method of relating to one another derives from the principles of emotional intelligence, the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one’s emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically, in the workplace and creates an environment where everyone has an opportunity to thrive.

Must take personal development seriously: In order to develop your leadership skills, it is imperative that you, as a leader, be willing to let your guard down, be more vulnerable and place personal and professional development at the top of your “to-do” list.

Be vulnerable: A willingness to be more vulnerable with yourself and others is the true sign of a transformational leader. Transformational leadership is born from a personal commitment to learn more about your fears and insecurities. Then, from this place, be willing to lead and interact with others.

Vulnerability follows: When you lead with vulnerability, it invites others to do the same and opens the door for authentic communication. The importance of this shouldn’t be underestimated because it is essentially the linchpin that allows for a deeper connection between colleagues, and provides essential insights needed to influence others and drive outcomes.

Understand That Transformation Isn’t Easy: Anyone who’s experienced any form of transformation in their life understands that it doesn’t happen overnight, isn’t easy, and is a continuing, ever-changing process. The same holds true when you embark on a journey of transformational leadership, as you will inevitably be led down a windy path with many challenging twists and turns along the way.

Explore your fears: The inward journey is one that allows you to explore your deepest fears and insecurities and often requires a certain level of persistence to access some of the “stuff” that you may have subconsciously buried somewhere deep within.

Learn what bothers you: As you start to uncover some of this “stuff,” you’ll gain more awareness of the external factors in your life that trigger you and trip you up in your day-to-day activities. Perhaps you find yourself continually bothered by one of your clients or in challenging conversations with your colleagues.

Learn why they bother you: Regardless of this situation, the more you develop an understanding and awareness of “why” these things bother you, the more equipped and well-rounded you become as a leader and the more capable you become of supporting others in their own transformational process.

PRACTICE KINDNESS TOWARDS YOURSELF:

When I ask people if they’re kind enough, they typically think about the times when they WEREN’T kind to someone else, and:

1. Tend to NOT think about the times that they WERE kind to others.

2. Rarely question whether or not they are kind enough with themselves.

When you’re out of integrity towards someone, or being unkind, there’s a good chance that you’re being unkind with yourself, and projecting your feelings onto others.

If the definition of kindness is the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate, the question then becomes, are you friendly, generous, and considerate with yourself?…

….especially during those times when you feel that you’ve f’d something up, or should have done something differently.

The truth is that every experience you encounter is an opportunity for learning and growth, so rather than holding yourself in the wrong, practice kindness…..towards yourself.

For the month of June, we’ll focus on “compassion” and how it’s the most important skill that you can develop as a leader.

Have a great rest of the week!
