Have you ever found yourself in a state of victimhood? – Blaming your setbacks and mishaps on the people, places and things around you.
I think it’s fair to say that at one point or another, everyone finds themselves in this state of being.
Some people never get out of it.
Are you one of those people?
Or, do you tend to choose the empowered path – to take personal responsibility when things don’t go your way?
Regardless of where you fall on the spectrum between victimhood and empowerment, the following poem called, “Choosing” by Sami Sunchild, could serve as a nice wake-up call, or friendly mid-week reminder for you….
In my life, I am the chooser.
Do I say, “Look what life is doing to me”? Or do I say, “Look what I am doing to life”?
There is a power in choosing, there is special power in knowing I am the chooser at every moment.
In every situation, even when I do not take action, even when I do not make a decision, I am choosing to not decide, I am choosing to not take action.
At every moment, I choose who I keep company with – or not to keep company.
I choose what I learn – or not to learn anything.
I choose how I spend my time – including choosing to not choose.
In life, I choose my mentors – or not to have a mentor, not to admire and emulate anybody, not to ask for help.
When I go out the door, I turn right or left, or go straight ahead. The path I take can influence my whole life.
I can even choose not to go out at all. Most importantly, I choose which ideas, actions, foods, drinks, substances, I say “no” to, and which I say “yes” to.
I teach myself a thousand times a day to make brilliant decisions – or not.
I love how Sami breaks it down….
….Having increased awareness and ownership of the choices you make is what enables you to live an empowered life….
In her words, “Look what I am doing to life”
This isn’t to say that choosing the empowered state is always an easy choice to make. In fact, it can be quite difficult.
Daily challenges will show up in your life…..
Difficult work relationships.
Old patterns and behaviors.
Physical ailments in your body.
One of the best questions you can ask yourself in these moments is, “What is this trying to teach me?”
Often times, when you choose to explore things on a deeper level, and take responsibility for what you’re feeling, you can create major breakthroughs in your life.
And when you feel the positive impact of a breakthrough…it can be a game changer.
Creating breakthroughs is one of the primary intentions for our upcoming Expand Into Greatness program….
My close friend and colleague, Toma Ramirez and I, are excited to officially announce our 3-month program called:
“Expand Into Greatness – to clarify and execute on the life you want.”
The program kicks off with an in-person retreat (July 12th – July 14th) at the breathtaking Green Gulch Farm Zen Center in Marin, CA.
Followed by 3 months of individual and group coaching.
The retreat is designed to help you identify the one thing that would make the biggest difference in your life……
The 3-month coaching program provides you with a platform of continued support to ensure your success.
We’re only taking 16 participants on this adventure – perhaps you’ll be one of them!
